Violin Bows The violin or fiddle bow is a stick with a ribbon of hair run between the tip and the nut, or frog. The hair can be real horsehair or made of synthetic materials on cheaper bows. A screw adjuster at the frog end adjusts the tension of the hair. The best bow sticks are made from permanbuco wood, with less expensive models made of brazilwood. Cheaper student bows are often made of fiberglass.
