Capos
A capo is used to change the key of guitar without having to learn alternate chord positions or adjusting the strings with the tuning keys. The capo make it possible for a player to play in many different keys, while only knowing chord progressions in a few keys. Simply moving the capo up or down the neck raises or lowers the key. The capo can also be used to provide alternate chord voicings, for example an E chord played open on a guitar has much different tonal qualities than an e chord played with a cap on the 4th fret while playing a C chord.
Strings
Every acoustic instruments need strings to actually provide the tone of the instrument. Regardless the quality of woods, the careful craftsmanship and attention to detail, the most expensive instruments can't make a tone without the string, which is a relatively inexpensive item. The string is the element that provides the source of vibration on bluegrass instruments like the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and bass. Picks
Picks fall into 3 general categories - flatpicks, thumbpicks and fingerpicks. Flatpicks are also referred to as a plectrum and are generally in the shape of a triangle, and can range from an acute isosceles triangle to a nearly round shape. Materials range from plastic, rubber, felt, tortoiseshell, metal and even stone. Flatpicks are also available in a large variety of thicknesses and colors. Thumbpicks and fingerpicks are usually made of plastic or metal and attach to the finger or thumber, rather than being gripped like a flatpick.
Straps
Instrument straps can be made of leather, nylon or other synthetic materials. The strap is intended to allow the musician to play in a standing position, though they are also useful in stabilizing the instrument while in a sitting position. Dobro Steels
A dobro steel, also known as a tone bar, is used on square-neck dobros and lap steel guitars. The strings on these instruments are away from the fretboard and are not held down against the fretboard like a regular guitar. Instead, the dobro steel, or tonebar, is held in the left hand and pressed against the strings, creating differing pitches depending on where on the fretboard it is pressed. The steel allows the strings on the dobro to resonate for a long time, giving it the distinctive sound.
